The Storm Lake Tornadoes (20-12) used an offense explosion in the later innings of Tuesday's first round State Baseball Game to put away the Benton Community Bobcats (35-7) and become the first lower seed to advance in this years tournament.

The first five innings of the contest proved to be a back and forth affair with the Bobcats clinging to a 3-2 lead. The top of the sixth is when the Tornadoes bats came alive striking for two runs and three more in the seventh on the the strength of two RBI's from Jesus Garcia.

Despite entering the bottom of the seventh down by five runs the Bobcats did not fold. The Bobcats brought the tying run to the plate with two outs but were not able to gain anymore ground, falling to the Tornadoes by a final score of 7-4.

The big bats of the Tornadoes were not there all game, however. In the top of the fourth inning Storm Lake first baseman Carson Anderson laid down a perfect suicide squeeze to bring home third baseman Nolan Cone. Cone finished the day a perfect four for four with an RBI.

The Bobcats snagged a 3-2 lead in the bottom of the fourth inning when left fielder Wes Anderson singled to center field bringing home third baseman Parker Stallman.

Bobcat pitcher Ethan Brown suffered his first loss of the season at the hands of the Tornadoes. Brown allowed 12 hits while walking one and striking out nine.
