The Java Alley will soon have a new name, and new owners.
John and Lynn Yundt have purchased the coffee shop and cafe at the corner of Fifth Street and First Avenue in Vinton. They plan to re-name the establishment "Fifth Street Koffee Haus."
The Yundts will take over the business Dec. 1, says John. Lynn Yundt and the couple's daughter, Autumn, will operate the business, although most of the current employees will still keep their jobs, said John. The couple's son, Nick, will also work their part-time.
While this is the Yundts' first restaurant owning experience, they have had experience related to their new venture. Lynn Yundt was the assistant manager and bakery manager at Food Pride (now Roy's Hometown Foods in Vinton). And Autumn has been an assistant manager at Best Buy and Lowe's stores in eastern Iowa.
In addition to their business experience, Yundt said his family members are all very good at working with the public.
"I am blessed to have a family with very good people skills," he said.
Yundt said the family plans to expand the hours and the menu at the business in the near future.
"We want to give people good, homemade things to eat, like fresh pastries and homemade pies with crust made from scratch," he said.
"The soups are excellent right now, but we plan to do a little enhancement on the soup and add more homemade soup," he adds.
The business will soon open earlier in the morning and eventually remain open longer in the evening so people can stop for supper on the way home from work, said Yundt.
The Koffee Haus will also offer wi-fi connectibility so customers with laptops can work on their computers and have internet access while enjoying their meals and coffee
