The members of the Vinton-Shellsburg youth football program saw that older players, all the way up to the stars of National Football League, were wearing pink to promote awareness of breast cancer.
And says coach Rick Miracle, the boys decided to do something. They sold pink T-shirts, and raised $151. They donated $75 to the family of a Cedar Rapids youth football player who has been affected by cancer. They also gave $76 to the Virginia Gay Hospital Foundation for breast cancer awareness programs.
Foundation chairman Keith Mossman thanked the boys for their contribution and invited them and their families to the open house at VGH Thursday afternoon so they could see the improvements at the hospital.
